Stories Untold
A journey through culture, humanity, and the moments in between.

Artist's Statement
"Through my lens, I explore where culture and humanity intersect."
"From a young age, photography became my way of exploring people, culture, and the human condition. What began with a single portrait of a Swazi chief has grown into a lifelong journey of observation and creative exploration. In 2025, I published my first book, Stories Untold — a deeply personal collection of images that reflect moments of beauty, struggle, and connection.
Born in South Africa and now living in New Hampshire, I continue to pursue the stories that live within and beyond each frame."

JOSH SMITH
"She knows the angles needed to capture both the forest, the trees, and more importantly, the person in front of her lens. But most of all, she knows how to find the humanity of a stranger, and that’s what this book illuminates."
-
PICO IYER
"If my grand-daughter were to ask me tomorrow, 'What’s the point of travel?' I might well show her this book."
-
EDWIN CAMERON
"Calla’s talents are abundant. Her deep compassion and insight into humanity – gained from a lifetime of caring and empathy – shine through her collection."

Sparking A Lifelong Passion
When I was a young girl, I received my very first camera from my father, Theo, which was the start of a lifelong passion and the beginning of my career.

1970s-1980s
South Africa
Growing up in Johannesburg, South Africa, I spent my time experimenting and learning how to photograph family, friends and strangers. I developed immense respect for peoples' cultures and traditions, which began to influence my photographic style.

Exploring
After school I spent two years exploring Europe and the USA on my own. I supported myself with odd jobs. I loved meeting people and photographing them.

2000 - Now
Evolving as a photographer
Digital photography accelerated my technical skills. I attended many photographic workshops in different genres and continued to travel. I began to develop and to appreciate my own style and to be more confident with my subjects and composition. I began to sell my work. I accumulated a catalog of over a million images of which a tiny number are on my website and in my book.
